Rocrail ds641/6/2023 ![]() At the very simplest conceptual view one defines blocks, routes between the blocks and then schedules using those routes. This would also stop a train realistically but without the precision mentioned by others above.Īll three systems follow the same basic principle. #Rocrail ds64 softwareAlternatively you can trigger a combined enterin event and the software allows a fixed time interval between the two. ![]() It works on the principle of having several insulated sections per train block so that the 'enter' action can be separated from the 'in' event where you probably want the train to stop. What I liked most about RocRail is its ability to realistically slow a train in smooth steps as it runs into a block section. The documentation is not great but it is quite comprehensive and there is a user forum to answer newbie questions That leaves RocRail which to me strikes a good balance. JMRI is good also but very complex (unnecessarily so IMO) to use. RR&Co definitely would be the way to go if you had the funds and it does have both excellent documentation and thanks to Ruud Baier, comprehensive online tutorials. I evaluated RRr&Co, RocRail and JMRI and have just decided that RocRail will do all I want. I have Digitrax equipment and my layout is being built now. ![]() I'm in that very same boat Graham and am following this thread with interest. It can be made to work, you just need to be aware of its short comings. It wouldn't surprise me if Bachmann now having their own similar version of Railmaster out actually get loco detectors released before Hornby!! The only way to have Railmaster run automatic routes using this timed operation is after every automatic cycle slow the loco right down and let it run into the buffers at a station or siding so it has a known starting point, if not after 2 or three cycles it will be starting in a slightly different position every time.īasically there is no feedback to say where anything is, it has been promised for many years but at the moment still vaporware. #Rocrail ds64 fullRailmaster will record exactly the movements and functions you want to operate and it will play these back for you when you put it into automatic operation, you can also add extra time between operations as its running if required too to fine tune everything, but if the loco wheel spins or something else happens the automatic process will still go through its timed sequence so if when you record the movement it records move train XXXX at speed step 56 for 20secs, if on the next cycle the train is not quite in the same place as when you recorded the sequence it could be in the wrong position for the next events, not good when coming up to points that you're about to change, trust me I found that out when the loco derailed as the points changed while the loco was on them, that was after two full automatic cycles. I've looked into the Hornby Railmaster system and it looks as though it could tick all the boxes, Again i'm after any advice from users etc. I can run a sequence of say half an hour, the System remembers everything I've done and then at the push of a button it will repeat it. I'm currently using a Digitrax system which is perfectly good, now though i'm looking at auto running for parts of the layout, from the research I've been doing RR&co software looks good but for me a little confusing and also fairly expensive, what i'm after is what i'd call a memory system, i.e. I'm looking into DCC automation on a future layout and i'm looking for some advice / recommendations. The only real advice I can give is to first be absolutely sure of what level of automation you want ( including possible future changes) and not rush into buying anything until you are sure, and also if you go with a system that uses rail cuts or gaps for occupancy purposes do not ballast until all trackwork is totally finalised and tested fully with just plain ordinary DCC. ![]() #Rocrail ds64 seriesI am about three quarters of the way there in that the layout is finished as regards track and scenery and i'm about halfway through configuring traincontroller to my needs, , traincontroller is vast and does take some learning but I am being greatly helped by the excellent series of Videos available both on here and online from a guy called Rudy. ![]() Hi, I also wanted automation and went for a Railcom based system using a Lenz system and Railcom readers from DCC4PC, I determined that as I do not have a turntable the RR&Co Silver software would be just about comprehensive enough for my needs, I had originally intended to use DCC4PC's Railcommander software but it's not yet mature enough for an oft times numb brain like me. ![]()
